More Snow

We’ve had another snowstorm. Only about four inches this time, though, as compared to 16 inches in the last storm. The southern part of Wisconsin got hit a lot harder with 16 to 18 inches of snow in places.

This storm came with much more wind, though. When it’s going to be windy like that, then I’m just as well satisfied when there’s not as much snow to drift around and make driving more hazardous. Not to mention getting out to feed the horses. The location of the pasture for my paint-quarter horse, Isabelle, is on a slope below the driveway, and the path down to her pasture always drifts full of snow when the wind is out of the west or northwest.

Even with four inches of snow, there was enough drifted on the path to Isabelle’s fence that it was kind of hard going carrying grain and hay and water to her.

Fortunately, the wind had died down by Friday morning, and Friday turned out to be a rather pleasant day with sunshine.

Even with the snow we’ve gotten lately, I heard on the radio the other day that 80-some percent of the state is still in a drought. So, more snow is good. If we can get a gradual melt in the spring, the snow will help the fields tremendously to bring up the moisture in the soil.

Here’s hoping for more snow. And an end to the drought.
